Storm Panels
If you are looking for a versatile and economical way to protect your home, consider Storm Panels. This type of protection is not permanently affixed to the structure, the Storm Panels are typically stored in a convenient location and installed by the owner when tropical or hurricane force winds are expected. Although not as convenient as Roll Down or Accordion shutters, Storm Panels are still a popular choice for many homeowners.
Storm Panel Types
Storm Panels are installed on your home with the use of aluminum tracks or directly to your home with direct mount fasteners. Each Storm Panel is approximately 15” wide with coverage of 12”. Storm Panels are corrugated for strength and rigidity to allow the Panels to effectively span most openings. The corrugated design allows the panels to overlap when installed and compact storage when not in use.
There are two types of direct mount fasteners, Female and male panel mates. Female panel mates are installed flush with the substrate and accept a ¼-20 machine screw. To install panels with a screw driver, loosen the machine screws and install panel and re-tighten. Male panel mates are installed leaving a ¼” stud protruding from wall approximately ¾”. To install panels, position panels onto the studs and secure with a wing nut.
